"PAPYRUS" is a character in the INSANITY! Tale continuity. The brother of Sans turned into a corrupted phantom of his own MADNESS, his appearances throughout the main storylines are largely limited to mere implications. He appears in "ANTI-PRESENCE" as the protagonist and in Amalgamation of the Likewise as a side character. He is implied in The Story and An Unfortunate Invasion, and makes an appearance as the overarching antagonist in the Misfitted Adventures series of short stories.
Appearance & Relations
"PAPYRUS" is a ghostly manifestation of MADNESS, gradually corrupted by it overtime until his very essence became linked to Sans's SOUL. He looks like the regular Papyrus from Undertale, just with a muted palette, a missing arm and missing legs. He is lacking a jaw and his eyes are melted down below his nose, occasionally he is surrounded by black static, most frequently around his eyes.
Personality
Not much is known about "PAPYRUS" to other factions other than the fact that he is the brother of Sans and can only be seen by him. He has a very egocentric, cunning but arrogant personality. Originally the ghost of a once innocent Papyrus, the effects of Sans's MADNESS would slowly take over his personality and result in him inheriting the extremes of Sans's hatred against Humanity, leading to him developing an obsession with the murder of Humans and often being the pivotal flattery that Sans needed to complete his perceived duties.
He is a trickster more than anything, playing on an individual's psyche with his abilities. Since he cannot kill Rose himself without Sans potentially resenting him - which would mean that his influence on him would dwindle - he often concocts inconveniences and minor attacks to screw with her and in extreme cases if he could would even attempt to deliberately alter the course of a fight that would lead to Rose being injured or nearly killed. As a result, Rose has since been a lot more wary when fighting alongside Sans.
Connections
Friends, Allies & Family
- Sans, his brother. Sans is his vessel to reality, and one he wants to supervise and care for, as "PAPYRUS" relies on Sans's MADNESS to even exist. If Sans was MAD enough, he would be a mere puppet to "PAPYRUS"'s own whim, in a state of total and utter mental apathy.
- Alphys, his one and only "former" friend. His last glimpse of her alive was through the very same wormhole he had created. He will always remember her, and perhaps she will remember him.
- Rose, his brother's friend. He doesn't consider her neither friend nor ally, although he must put up with her, for Sans's sake.
Enemies
- Rose. She provides a much needed moderation of Sans's MADNESS, and by association "PAPYRUS." As a result of this, and her being a Human, all "PAPYRUS" wishes for her is her immediate and brutal demise.
Weapons & Abilities
- Local Omnipresence: "Can will himself anywhere instantly as long as its within Sans's range due to him being purely a local manifestation."
- Immortality: "As long as Sans's SOUL stays intact, along with Sans's MADNESS, he cannot possibly die. He can, however, be damaged and have to replenish himself to become effective."
- Ghost Status: "Can only be harmed by magic attacks."
- Reality Manipulation: "Able to change certain aspects of reality, including making black holes, shifting entire branches of code, destroying code and even copying code to use for later, or replenish as his own."
- Stat/Ability Altering: "Only capable of being used on Sans, can change stats and abilities to a degree at the high cost of "PAPYRUS"'s own code, and whatever little he has of it at all. Because of this, "PAPYRUS" is already missing three of his limbs."
- Wormhole Creation: "He uses it to transport Sans to different universes."
- Regeneration: "Can heal from damage over a period of time."
- Foresight: "Can take a slight glimpse into the future in order to protect himself and his allies from potential damage."

Trivia
- The only way to completely eliminate "PAPYRUS" is to eliminate Sans first, as "PAPYRUS"'s existence is tied directly to his SOUL.
- Upon taking too much damage, "PAPYRUS" will be temporarily disintegrated, meaning he is unable to have any influence over reality.
